Some interesting history and a dedicated group of members have combined to carry on what is now a 41-year-old tradition.

In case you weren't aware, there is a Missoula Model Railroad Club. And their headquarters are at Fort Missoula in one of the buildings that made up the long-gone Milwaukee Depot facility in Drummond. More on that in a moment. First, let's get back on "track."

If you love model trains, you will want to attend the 41st annual Missoula Model Railroad Club Train Show and Swap Meet. The event will be held at Big Sky High School this Sunday, September 18, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Fun for the whole family! The show features operating train layouts, including the railroad club's portable HO scale layout and N scale layout that are only operated for special occasions, such as Railroad Day, the 4th of July festivities at Fort Missoula, and of course, the annual train show on Sunday.

You can also check out other model trains, railroad antiques, collectibles, memorabilia, books, and much more for sale and trade.

The origins of the club trace back to the demise of the Milwaukee Road in Drummond. Negotiations were made to save the Depot and have it moved to the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula. From there, the Missoula Model Railroad Club negotiated with the museum staff to arrange a long-term lease to the baggage room of the depot. Since 1992 it has served as the headquarters for the roughly 35-member club.

There's plenty of free parking at Big Sky High School for the train show Sunday. Tickets are only $3 each for those 16 and older. Kids 15 and younger are admitted free. If you need more information, you can contact the Missoula Model Railroad Club at (406) 543-6123.
