Bring the fun to your next gathering with a cornhole set.

Cornhole is an easy, fun lawn game that’s popular with people of all ages. Consisting of two boards and eight bags (filled with whole-kernel corn, beans or beads), it’s easy to assemble, fast to learn and perfect for gatherings. You could even build your own cornhole set!

While most people are likely to play with family and friends, in the last few years, the game has become a professional sport, leading to the availability of premium bags and boards. Whether you’re playing in the backyard with the kids or practicing your sling toss for a tournament, you’ll find a great selection of boards here.

The best boards are made of solid wood, like birch or poplar, or lightweight marine plywood, like okoume. They’re then surface-treated for durability and smoothness.

Industry organizations, like the American Cornhole Association and the American Cornhole League, oversee the game from rules to board sizes. Regulation-size boards measure 4 feet x 2 feet. They can weigh up to 40 pounds, which makes storage and portability an issue for some. If that size is too big or heavy, tailgate size (3 feet x 2 feet) or travel size (2 feet x 1 feet) might work better for you. Some boards are sold without bags, so be sure to check the listings.

We reviewed games for the following features: finish (slicker, unblemished finishes let the bags slide easier), materials, durability, and portability. We also looked at a variety of price points, from downright affordable to splurges, for those with a little more money to spend.

This set, made in the USA, is a fan favorite, with 90% 5-star ratings. Slick Woody’s finishes their solid-wood boards with a unique, laminated vinyl surface that plays the same no matter what conditions you’re competing in. While they weigh just over 33 pounds per board, they do have handles to help with portability. A few users disliked the vinyl surface, preferring a painted-on clear coat instead.

Perfect for the beach, picnics and—like the company name suggests—tailgating, Victory Tailgating makes regulation, all-weather cornhole games. Regulation size and tournament-grade, this set is built of Baltic birch, the smoothest, flattest wood on the market. A few players didn’t like the finish, but most noted the high quality and beautiful design.

If you’re serious about your game, consider a pro set, like this one by Tailgating Sports. Made in the USA, these tournament-style boards meet the industry’s highest standards. The board tops are UV Direct Printed, which ensures a high-quality print that will never peel off or disrupt play.

Made with ¾-inch Baltic birch and reinforced with a center support, these are some of the heaviest (and least bouncy) boards in the industry. They have handles for carrying, but at 33 pounds apiece, you may want to buy a carrying case.

While there are cheaper cornhole sets out there, this tailgate-size set combines low cost with durability and portability, making it a great option for beginners or those who play casually. Made of lightweight MDF, the boards have metal legs that fold away for easy storage. The more serious players didn’t like the boards’ bounciness, and some called them too slick, but for an average player, these are a good deal.

If you’re looking for an affordable option to take anywhere kids go, try this nylon-and-PVC cornhole set. Designed to be portable, the game folds down into a small carrying case and, at under 10 pounds, can be toted by just about anyone. Purists probably won’t like the slightly different play—thanks to the fabric, the bags bounce and don’t slide like they do on finished boards. But with 4.8 stars and more than 300 reviews, that doesn’t seem to be slowing the fans down.

Whether you’re hosting or traveling to a game, this portable set makes life easy. The tailgate-size boards clock in at a combined weight of 14.5 pounds, making them an easy lift for most folks. Made of UV-resistant MDF and aluminum, the boards fold flat and zip into a carrying bag. Even though they’re listed as waterproof, MDF can swell and warp if it gets wet, so store the set someplace dry when not in use.

This flag-themed tailgate set features boards that are made of solid wood in a water-resistant frame. They’re finished with a heat-transferred laminate that’s resistant to fading and warping. Built to be durable and portable both, the boards weigh 16 pounds total and come with handles to make transport easy. While the majority of reviewers commented positively, especially on their sturdy build, a few thought the bags were cheap.

While smaller than their regulation and tailgate counterparts, travel-size boards are popular options. Perfect for dorms, living rooms, kids’ rooms or small yards, this set is proportionally scaled to give you all the fun of the game.

Made of MDF and finished with vinyl, the boards hook-and-loop together for easy storage and transportation. At 4.5 pounds each, they’re lightweight enough for even the kids to carry. The main complaints came from folks who didn’t realize they were buying the smaller set.

If you’re a dedicated cornstar and only an official board will do, get your new cornhole board from the American Cornhole Association. This premium set – made for tournaments and competitions – comes with two solid wood boards and eight regulation bags. Made in the USA, all of the ACA’s sets carry an unconditional money-back guarantee. These first-class boards are heavy, so portability may be an issue, even with the built-in handles.
